Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1965 Diary with manuscript verse, notes and musings by the writer. The early part of it comprises poetic of a man seemingly besotted by a woman he feels he loves. He seems to lack belief in himself and has doubts that she has love for him. It opens with his comments on a visit to the Phoenix park and what she said to him there and his feelings and thoughts about that. There is sketch of a head in biro on one page which maybe the author of this ms(?).One example of the verse he writes reads: "Before when friends mentioned love I would grin and say it nestled just above the knee. Love was lust, nothing more & was not worthy of me. After you came & my spirit fused with yours I who scoffed have changed & advocate it like some new wonder religion. And late at night when I cannot sleep for wanting to be near you I write bad poetry and next day come and bore you." Interspersed among the pages are various appointments e.g. D.H.A. Conference,Trade Union Labour Party Wynnes Hotel, C.C. Labour Party, D. Corporation Committee and Council re Ballymun, Signing of Contract Custom House, meet reps Raleigh Cycle Co. re Training Union, Housing Committee, N.E.C.C, I.C.T.U, Meeting Athlone re incentive Labour, City Council, Foras Taluntais, etc. There are notes about a trip to Italy later in the year with comments on various people and the situation there. The woman he loves is with him on the trip as are others. An interesting record of part of the year in the life of the writer. At the end of one page he reveals the name of the woman as Brighid M.!
