Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Sonia Delaunay made enormous contributions to the development of abstraction in the early 1900s. Sonia Delaunay: Art Is Life introduces young audiences to her art as Sonia and her six-year-old Charles embark on a magical road trip in their car, modelled after Sonia's 1925 design for a Citroen convertible. Together they glide into a landscape made up of colours and shapes drawn from Sonia's early abstract compositions - almost as if they've entered one of her paintings. Along the road, they make pit stops at 'sites' that inspired some of Sonia's key paintings of this period (such as the dance hall depicted in her 1913 work Bal Bulier and the open air Portuguese market that was the subject of her 1915 painting Marche au Minho). Sonia and Charles also explore her gorgeous and colourful designs for fabrics and clothing. Through these encounters, Sonia helps her son understand her artistic process of abstracting from reality by asking Charles what shapes and colours he discerns within these subjects. Their journey ends back in the real world, and Charles realizes that his mother's thinking about art permeates every aspect of their life. A celebration of the remarkable life and art of Sonia Delaunay, a groundbreaking artist of the early 20th century. Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. This exquisite publication features Asawa's vibrant, experimental lithographs of subjects ranging from delicate flowers to members of her family, and is the first to present her complete portfolio made at the renowned Tamarind Lithography Workshop Over the course of just two months in 1965, at a residency at the Tamarind Lithography Workshop in Los Angeles, the Japanese American artist Ruth Asawa produced a stunning portfolio of 54 lithographs, depicting organic forms and plants as well as family and friends. The Tamarind Workshop had been founded by artist June Wayne in Los Angeles in 1960 in an effort to revitalize lithography as a fine art, and offered artists the opportunity to work in collaboration with master printers. For Asawa, it was a rare chance to focus on a single medium and opened up a new chapter of artmaking for her. A testament to Asawa's radically experimental and collaborative ethos, the Tamarind prints present a discrete chapter of her oeuvre, encapsulating many of the artist's emblematic motifs. Published in celebration of the artist's centennial in 2026, this exquisitely produced book illustrates each lithograph made during her residency at the Tamarind Workshop, which have never been published as a complete series.
