Seit über vierzig Jahren arbeitet der marokkanische Philosoph Mohammed Abed Al-Jabri an der umfassenden und kritischen Reflexion des Niedergangs der arabischen Kultur. Sein Hauptwerk Naqd al-caql al-carabi, zu Deutsch: Kritik der arabischen Vernunft, erschien in vier Bänden von 1984 bis 2001 und löste von Marokko über Ägypten bis nach Syrien heftigste Diskussionen aus. Die Einführung zur Kritik der arabischen Vernunft ist das Resultat der Zusammenarbeit des Philosophen mit seinem französischen Übersetzer Ahmed Mahfoud und geht der Übersetzung des vierbändigen Gesamtwerkes voraus, das ab Herbst 2009 erscheint. Nun gab es viele Bücher, die sich in der Nachfolge Immanuel Kants mit dem Titel Kritik schmückten, doch selten war diese Anmaßung so berechtigt wie bei Al-Jabris profunder und hochgradig origineller Fundamentalanalyse der arabischen Kultur.
