First edition; oblong 8vo (19 x 25.5 cm); 32pp., 12 full-page illustrations by Nathalie Parain, slight age toning to some leaves; publisher's red cloth and teal pictorial boards, a fine copy. A fine example of Petite Histoire des Voyages with vivid illustrations by Nathalie Parain, one of the most successful Russian à migrà illu…strators in Paris. Nathalie Parain, born Chelpanova in Kyiv in 1897 studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts until the Revolution of 1917 forced an end to her studies. She moved to Moscow in order to gain a state recognised art degree at Vkhutemas and it was there, under the direction of Petr Konchalovsky that her artistic style veered towards the avant-garde. She emigrated to Paris with her French philosopher husband Brice Parain and began to work as a children's illustrator, in particular the albums of Pà re Castor. Cotsen 1134.
