Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book publishes findings gathered from a long term research project that investigated the impact of sickness absence on performance in the workplace. The author has conducted wide ranging literature reviews and drawn from multiple sources to bring together a series of case studies examining the impact of absenteeism on workers' productive output. The text includes original research that has been peer-reviewed and cited in academic journals. The author draws on this research to map the history of sickness absence as a concept, and frames it within debates about the role of the welfare state, the changing nature of work itself, and broader cultural shifts in attitudes towards work. The book offers fresh insights into the relationship between sickness, work and productivity that will be of interest to historians, sociologists, and policymakers. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a detailed analysis of the need for salary increases for civil servants in the wake of rising living costs. Positioned against the backdrop of new branches of the public service remunerating newly hired employees at a far higher rate than veteran civil servants, the book demonstrates the inequity of the situation. The author argues that not only is this disparity unfair, it also harms the public service by encouraging good employees to leave for more lucrative positions. The author advocates for immediate salary increases to retain talent and ensure the continued efficiency of the public service. Ultimately, this book provides valuable insights into the challenges facing civil servants and the need for fair compensation in the face of economic upheaval. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the diagnosis and treatment of some of the most common heart conditions. It begins by explaining the most useful principles that underpin the diagnosis of rheumatic, syphilitic, renal, and arteriosclerotic heart disease. The author emphasizes that a doctor should first inspect a patient as a whole, to gain a holistic view of their health before proceeding to examine their heart with a stethoscope. The book goes on to show how to differentiate between aortic and mitral disease by examining the patient's radial pulse. The text also shows how to differentiate between syphilitic and rheumatic heart disease, based on the signs and symptoms of each condition. This book should prove useful to doctors and healthcare students, as it includes both an explanation of useful diagnostic principles and their application to specific case studies. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book focuses on the angels who have been present on Earth since the very beginning. They have an important role in the functioning of the universe; as celestial beings, they bring messages from God, protect the faithful from evil, carry out God's will, and offer support through joys and sorrows. Angels are often depicted with wings for travel, carrying out God's will, and as protectors against evil forces, but these are not their only functions. The author has compiled stories from the Bible and other sources to offer a fuller picture of the nature of these beings and their place in the wider context of spirituality. At times seen as guardian spirits, the discussion of angels in the book goes beyond the guardian angel concept to discuss the deeper meaning and purpose of angels and their place in the broader spiritual realm. This book offers a unique perspective on the role of angels in the world, providing insight into their significance that will appeal to those interested in spirituality, religion, and the history of religious thought. A liberal reward will be paid for the arrest of this party. WM. H. JACKSON, Chief of Police, Cincinnati, Ohio." An important historical broadside of early 20th-century American law enforcement, race relations, and forensic science, The Bertillon System. It deals with high-profile gruesome capital murder cases and a sensational cross-border backdrop. It highlights the high-profile media and police response to an interracial marriage ending in homicide during an era of profound racism. Jones was born in Missouri c. 1873, moved to Cincinnati, worked as coachman and teamster (a driver of horse-drawn wagon teams). In 1905, he shot a Cincinnati police officer and served 5 years in the Ohio Penitentiary. Shortly after his release, on May 31, 1910, he was arrested for assault and battery of a local white woman. The case was dismissed without prosecution. He married Bertha Courtney (referred to in local records as Bertha Jones). On July 14, 1911, Bertha disappeared. On August 4, her decapitated body was discovered in a sewer line in Norwood, Ohio. Police Chief William H. Jackson released this circular on August 8, 1911. Investigators theorized that Jones was a serial killer, connecting him to other local homicides, including the death of an associate, black man named Charles Johnson, who helped Bertha leave Jones. After the discovery of Bertha's body Jones fled to Canada, using the alias "William Campbell" in Montreal. There, in August 1913, Jones (now Campbell) slit the throat of George Muir, the ex-boyfriend of his new girlfriend, Lillie Jackson. He was arrested by Canadian authorities. He was arrested in Montreal for Muir's murder. Ohio never extradited him for Bertha's murder because Canada hanged him on Jan.24, 1914 for George Muir's homicide. The execution drew such chaotic crowds that Canada banned the general public from witnessing future prison executions. See The Woman in the Sewer - on YouTube. The media coverage of the murders and manhunt drew national attention, including The New York Times, with emphasis of the marriage being interracial. decapitating the man, and on March 28, 1935, at Montreal's Bordeaux Prison, the same facility where Charles Jones had been hanged 21 years prior, Tomasina Sarao was hanged along with two accomplices for a murder-for-insurance plot, she was decapitated.
