A letter apologising about a mix up and about dates to a committee. Baron Pietro Carlo Giovanni Battista Marochetti 1805 - 1867 was an Italian-born French sculptor who worked in France, Italy and Britain. He completed many public sculptures, often in a neo-classical style, plus reliefs, memorials and large equestrian monuments in bronze and marble. In 1848, Marochetti settled in England, where he received commissions from Queen Victoria. Marochetti received great recognition during his lifetime, being made a baron in Italy and was awarded the Legion of Honour by the French government. Size is 180mm x 115mm. Condition is good. Pietro Marchetti, noto anche come Petrus de Marchettis o de Marchetis (Padova, 1589 - Padova, 16 aprile 1673), è stato un chirurgo, anatomista e medico italiano. Secondo lo storico della medicina inglese Edward Withington è stato il chirurgo italiano più importante del Seicento. Studiò all'Università di Padova dove si laureò in medicina e dove fu allievo di Girolamo Fabrici d'Acquapendente. Dal 28 febbraio 1652 divenne professore di anatomia e chirurgia nell'Ateneo patavino. Profondo conoscitore dell'anatomia, fu in chirurgia un ardito innovatore. I suoi contributi scientifici riguardano la chirurgia epatica, la chirurgia ortopedica, le ferite d'arma da fuoco e la neurochirurgia, per cui praticò la trapanazione del cranio nella cura dell'epilessia post traumatica. Si occupò anche di fistole intestinali ed anali, di ulcere e fistole dell'uretere e di spina bifida. Sue opere furono tradotte in inglese, tedesco e francese. Nel 1669, al compimento degli 80 anni d'età, si ritirò dall'insegnamento, lasciando la cattedra al figlio Antonio Marchetti. Venne sepolto, con grandi onoranze, nella Basilica di S. Antonio.

Incisione in rame, dipinta a mano, mm 73x103, tratta da "Il Theatro del mondo di Abarmo Ortelio" di P.M. Marchetti in una delle successive ristampe del XVII secolo ad opera di vari editori. Purtoppo dal foglio singolo non ci Ë stato possibile risalire all'edizione precisa. La prima edizione dell'Epitome orteliana risale al 1577 quando Galle la stampÚ ad Anversa, mentre la prima versione italiana venne alla luce, sempre ad opera di Galle, nel 1593. Nel 1598 Marchetti pubblicÚ questa edizione pirata reincidendo in modo meno raffinato le carte, che vennero utilizzate in molte edizioni italiane seicentesche nonchÈ anche inltre opere come le "Relationi universali" di Botero. La carta mostra il territorio compreso fra Radicofani, Montefiascone e il corso del Tevere. Nr.cat: Cod 1915.
