Though the imprint reads "à Ratisbonne, Chez J. Aubri,"… Rahir identifies Jean Ribbius of Utrecht as the actual printer. The book critiques the structure of liberty in Venice and suggests it favored the patrician class. Venetian authorities prohibited circulation of the text. It was frequently paired with Amelot's Histoire du gouvernement de Venise. Bound in leather with gilt titling on the spine and marbled endpapers, this sextodecimo edition measures 6.25 x 3.75 inches.
