Contact seller5-star sellerTrade Paperback. Condition: Fine. An exceptional copy. 2007 Trade Paperback. 116 pp. The HazMat Literary Review is a local literary release that has been published since 1996, quite a feat considering some of the coming and going of a few short-lived local magazines. Its publisher is Norman L. Davis, who also serves as the poetry editor. The publishing company Davis used to produce HazMat is Cleavis Hook Press. A passage by the editors from their website (now defunct) describes HazMat: When we began publishing in 1996, we were just a few writers who knew a handful of other writers, all of us writing about things that most people didn't want to face. Things happening in the real world. Social issues, politics, religion, humanitarian violations, war and inequality. All we wanted to do then was give a few people an opportunity for their voices to be heard. We weren't even sure there would be a second issue. Now, so many years later, after publishing hundreds of voices, all we want to do is give a few more people an opportunity to be heard. HazMat Review is dedicated completely and uncompromisingly to literary freedom and artistic expression. We believe that there must be a pure forum available for writers to create pure art. Our authors may write whatever they choose without fear of censorship or retribution. The poetry and prose we publish is influenced by no corporate, political, religious, educational, or philosophical belief system. We accept no advertising. We survive on magazine sales, subscriptions, and donations. The entire staff works for free. We cherish our supporters because we know that they, too, believe in freedom of speech. Although we like to publish poetry, prose, and artwork that demonstrates social and political awareness, we are open to all work of high quality. In evaluating submissions we look for excellent writing, passion for your subject, and superior vision. If you are not a subscriber, please consider it. Become a true patron of the arts." HazMat Review is printed on high quality paper and regularly features a wide range of literature within its pages. HazMat has published numerous well known and up-and-coming poets since it began publication. The most frequent criticism of the journal is that its table of contents is hard to decipher and there is no index, thus readers cannot easily find any specific piece by any specific author. Also as many as 2 or 3 poems are stacked on a single page. HazMat suspended publication sometime in 2009 and has not come back since. - ROC Wiki. …

Wraps, 50 pp., followed by 14 pp. of vocal score and five pages of black-and-white production photographs, unpaginated; 22 cm; hand-lettered pictorial front cover. In Very Good condition. Yellow pictorial paper covers, staple bound. Mild shelf wear with bumping and creasing to edges and corners, a few small nicks to edges, and light sunning, toning and soiling. Pale stain to front cover beside the title, with a small dark spot at lower left. Binding tight. Pages clean. Otherwise unmarked. Children's musical play for a company of nine player-musician-dancers, adapted from Hans Christian Andersen's "The Beetle": Benjamin Beetle, who insists he is not a bug but a very rare insect with an illustrious family tree, demands gold horseshoes after the stable racehorse Secretary is given a set, leaves home when he is called insignificant, and works his way through a backyard of flowers, a caterpillar, frogs, a Sensitive Plant and a Venus Fly-Trap, and the vaudeville double-act Professors Hip and Hop before returning to marry Libby Beetle. Players sing, dance, play instruments and make the sound effects; roles double and triple for a cast of nine, or the company may be enlarged so each actor takes a single part. Production notes cover set pieces, the eight-foot puppet lady, papier-mache and mask construction for the horse, insect make-up, costume, lighting and a score written to work with a real orchestra or with guitars, kazoos and homemade percussion. Vocal score for Hello, Hello; Friends From Your Own Backyard; and Goodbye, Goodbye. Photographs record the two premieres of May 1974, both listed with full casts: MiraCosta College, Oceanside, on May 10, directed by Jorgensen and sponsored by the Harlequin Players and Community Services, and Fairview School, Goleta, on May 31, choreographed by Shawn Winters of UCSB. Royalty terms of $15.00 for a first performance and $10.00 thereafter printed on the copyright page. Rear cover and final leaf advertise two further Starr and Jorgensen plays from the same press, Peach Boy and The Magic Bow. WorldCat records a single library holding.…
