Add to basketCondition: Fine. 1953., 1953. Fine. - An original 9-3/4 inch high by 7-5/8 inch wide sepia-toned oval portrait of the great bel canto voice teacher Enrico Rosati with his wife and daughter. All three are portrayed from the waist up. Rosati, pictured in three-quarter profile at the right, is attired in a three-piece suit with a patterned tie. His wife stands behind his daughter who is lightly leaning into him. There is minor soiling to the borders. Paper remnants along the top edge of the verso would indicate the photograph was once likely mounted. An otherwise near fine attractive photograph. Together with an original 10 inch high by 8 inch wide black & white photograph of one of his students from the chest up. The photograph, dated "December, '53" at bottom left is inscribed & signed by the student in white ink at bottom right "To Meastro [sp] Rosati / in regards of our friendship . With admiration and gratitude . Affecionatissimo / Hugh". There is a tear to the bottom edge of this photo with extensive glue stains to the verso. The famous bel canto operatic voice teacher Enrico Rosati (1874-1963) first taught in Rome at the Accademia de Santa Cecilia and later in New York City. He taught such luminaries as Beniamino Gigli, Giacomo Lauri-Volpi, Frances James, Karin Branzell, George London, and Mario Lanza, among many others.…

Gr.-8°, Ppbd. VII, 323 S., mit 45 s/w-Abb. auf Taf. Neuwertiges Ex. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 2007 OUP hardcover edition. Light reading wear, small inscription to endpaper else very good condition. The Art of Love celebrates the bi-millennium of Ovid's cycle of sophisticated and subversive didactic poems on love, traditionally assumed to have been brought to completion around AD 2. Ars Amatoria (The Art of Love) and Remedia Amoris (Cures for Love), which purport to teach young Roman men and women how to be good lovers, were partly responsible for the poet's exile from Rome under the emperor Augustus. None the less they exerted great influence over ancient and later love poetry. This is the first collection in English devoted to the poems, and brings together many of the leading figures in the field of Latin literature and Ovidian studies from the British Isles, Germany, Italy, and the United States. It offers a range of perspectives on the poetics, politics, and erotics of the poems, beginning with a critical survey of recent research, and concluding with papers on the ancient, medieval, and modern reception of the poems. Contents: List of Contributors Lessons in Love: Fifty Years of Scholarship on the Ars Amatoria and Remedia Amoris by Steven J. Hardback. Condition: New. Over the past decade European economic integration has seen considerable institutional success, but the economic performance of the EU has been varied. While macroeconomic stability has improved and an emphasis on cohesion preserved, the EU economic system has not delivered satisfactory growth performance. This book is the report of a high-level group commissioned by the President of the European Commission to review the EU economic system and propose a blueprint for an economic system capable of delivering faster growth along with stability and cohesion. It assesses the EU s economic performance, examines the challenges facing the EU in the coming years, and presents a series of recommendations. The report views Europe's unsatisfactory growth performance during the last decades as a symptom of its failure to transform into an innovation-based economy. It has now become clear that the context in which economic policies have been developed has changed fundamentally over the past thirty years. A system built around the assimilation of existing technologies, mass production generating economics of scale, and an industrial structure dominated by large firms with stable markets and long term employment patterns no longer delivers in the world of today, characterized by economic globalization and strong external competition. What is needed now is more opportunity for new entrants, greater mobility of employees within and across firms, more retraining, greater reliance on market financing, and higher investment in both RandD and higher education. This requires a massive and urgent change in economic policies in Europe.…

Cosa sta cambiando nelle rotte navali. Jacopo Rosati (illustrator).…
