The Austrian-born (later American) chemist was well recognized for his work in rubbers, plastics and fibers. He was the first to determine the structure of cellulose, silk, chitin, starch and rubber. He developed polyvinyl and other polymers and gave the first quantitative measurement of anamalous dispersion and polarization of x-rays. This pamphlet relates to Mark's work with the H2 molecule and identifying the isotopes. Deuterated water shortly thereafter became important in unsuccessful Nazi efforts to develop an atom bomb. Hermann Mark was a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Vienna at this time.
