The growing interest in the concept of Europeanisation reflects the transformation of European societies since the end of the Cold War. Since then it has become less and less legitimate to consider the contemporary history of European states from a purely national angle. Indeed, the concept of Europeanisation allows national frontiers to be overcome and to write a shared European history from a broader perspective than just the European integration project. Mark Spoerer und Martin Götz zeigen, dass dessen Gründung keineswegs Resultat einer von oben oktroyierten Entscheidung war, sondern viele süddeutsche Textilunternehmen ein eigenes Interesse hatten, sich an dieser neuen Technologie zu beteiligen. Obwohl zur Importsubstitution gegründet, entwickelte sich das Werk nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg zu einem ausgesprochenen Exportunternehmen. Für den sich globalisierenden Weltmarkt erwies es sich jedoch als zu klein, so dass es 1968 von Hoechst übernommen wurde. In den 1970er und 1980er Jahren nahm Hoechst umfangreiche Investitionen vor, insbesondere im Bereich des Umweltschutzes. 1993/94 trennte sich Hoechst von der Chemiefasersparte. Es gehört zur Ironie in der Geschichte dieses Werks, dass es gerade diese frühen Umweltinvestitionen waren, die ihm in der Folgezeit das Überleben in konzerninternen Standortwettbewerben sicherte. 136 pp. Deutsch.
