From 1846 to 1852 the author hunted throughout the Tibet and the Himalayas. He pursued ibex, markhor and Tibetan argali. His book is considered perhaps the first one written on hunting in the Himalayas (1852). Good reading and an important Asian hunting book. As new in like new orig slipcase.

Nice copy of this popular hunting title that makes up an edition in the John Culler Asian Series.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. First. Green cloth boards were rebacked at some point but retained gilt stamped illustrated spine. Cloth is sunned to brown though and there is some dampstaining along the top edges. Front board illustrated with gilt stamped image of an ibex. Interior is clean save for previous owner's name on the the title page and a book plate on the inside front board. all 8 lithographs and folding map present and well preserved. All woodcut illustrations are intact as well.

Illustrated with frontispiece and 7 lithographic plates after E.F. Campbell, each protected by tissue guards. Additionally contains a folding map and 15 wood-engraved illustrations throughout the text. Condition is Good or better, spine faded as is top edge of covers; rear hinge showing webbing but feels tight still; text and plates have varying degrees of foxing, mainly marginal.
