Marklin's continuation of Lidén's bibliography of dissertations covers the years 1778-1819 and is still the standard reference on the subject. Gabriel Marklin (1777-1857) was an entomologist and assistant master at the Society of Sciences in Uppsala and an able book collector. He mainly took an interest in scientific literature and Swedish academic dissertations. His main collection of dissertations totaled 23 000 titles and it was acquired by the Royal Library in Stockholm already in Marklin's own lifetime.
