Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. 224 pages. First edition, first printing. Introduction by Herbert Berger, M. D. A brutally honest self-portrait of a young doctor working to free himself from the bondage of drug addiction. Fine book in a fine dust jacket with very slight wear to the corners. A beautiful copy!

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: G--. First (presumed). The main message of this book is how easy it can be for doctors to get access to drugs and the potential for addiction. At the writing the doctor had been drug free for 2 yrs. but the `Purgatory' in the title refers to the temporary state that withdrawl can be. Beginning as a `cure' for gout and a broken heart, drugs led this M.D. through 2 stays in a `hosprison' in an attempt to throw the monkey. Cond: 1 corner is dinged, spine sli. cocked, sm. stain to rfep & fore edge.D.J. has heavy edge wear. Price still there. Red d.j. with hands on a needle, over black boards. 224 pages. Quote from p.105 : " .I seemed to be on my way to real success and prosperity. Yet I could not recall when I had been more miserable.
