At the writing the doctor had been drug free for 2 yrs. but the `Purgatory' in the title refers to the temporary state that withdrawl can be. Beginning as a `cure' for gout and a broken heart, drugs led this M.D. through 2 stays in a `hosprison' in an attempt to throw the monkey.
