The colorful impressionist novel of a good literary merit and deep psychological approach was awarded second prize in first literary competition organized by literary cooperative "Loodus" in 1927. The most conspicuous feature of the novel is its composition. Reader follows all happening from the side, namely thrue attic entrance. Described only one night in the heroes life, from the wonderful hopes for the future till the tragic outcome. In pre-wedding night the bride thinks, remembers, dreams about her groom, a nice gay with only one vice drinking. She is setting plans how to wean off his drinking. But against all hopes, gay has come to the bride absolutely drunk and fell asleep. From dispair she hangs herself on a attic beam. Mart Raud (19031980) was an Estonian poet, playwright and writer. He debuted in 1919 with romantic poetry, later turned to realistic traditions. In the second half of 1920s he began as a novelist. In the novels author satirized bourgeois mores. After the 1940 Soviet occupation of Estonia, he was loyal to the new regime and his creation was influenced by communist ideology. Nikolai Triik (1884-1940) was an Estonian modernist painter, graphic artist, printmaker and professor. His work displays elements of Symbolism and Expressionism. Triik is among the most important artists of the beginning of the 20th century, whose work led to a breakthrough in Estonian art. Triik also was undoubtely very experienced as an illustrator of books and journals. Many his covers feature an Art Deco composition. Triik was closely associated with the cultural grouping Noor-Eesti (Young Estonia), which was active primarely during the first dacade of the 20th century and set making Estonian's culture more modern and international as its motto. In 1920 Triik joined a progressive art association named Pallas and began to work as a teacher at the Pallas Art School. In 1922 he started to give private lessons at his own studio in Tartu. Triik's studio began to produce graduates amongst whom were famous Estonian artists. In 1933 he became the first Estonian to be named a Professor of Art.
