Édition parisienne de 1771 chez Barbou, ce volume réunit la Sarcothée du jésuite allemand Jacob Masen (Masenius, 1606-1681), poème néo-latin retraçant la chute d'Adam et Ève qui fut parfois rapproché du Paradis perdu de Milton, le panégyrique en vers de l'empereur Charles Quint, un traité sur la poésie héroïque et, en appendice, la paraphrase latine des Lamentations de Jérémie par Bénigne Grenan, offrant ainsi une version enrichie par rapport à l'édition de 1757 qui ne contenait que le poème et sa traduction française, et témoignant de l'importance accordée au XVIIIe siècle à la poésie latine humaniste et à sa mise en perspective critique.
