Mnyampala (1917-1969), qu'il entreprit de rediger peu avant son deces, entre 1968 et 1969. Veritable tresor du patrimoine litteraire tanzanien, ce recit est demeure inedit durant pres de quarante ans. Il fut retrouve en 2007 a Dodoma (Tanzanie) par Mathieu Roy qui, suivant les directives du Professeur Mugyabuso Mlinzi Mulokozi, parvint a identifier l'heritier de l'auteur. Ce dernier, Charles M. Mnyampala, fils de l'ecrivain et depositaire du manuscrit, conservait alors la bibliotheque familiale ainsi que de nombreux manuscrits inedits. L'ouvrage a ensuite ete edite par Mathieu Roy et publie par les editions DL2A - Buluu Publishing pour la premiere fois en 2013. Mathias E. Mnyampala est une figure majeure des lettres tanzaniennes de langue swahilie, auteur de plus de vingt-cinq ouvrages. Reconnu par ses pairs de son vivant, il presida jusqu'en 1966 l'association nationale des poetes d'expression swahilie et de promotion de la poesie (UKUTA). Son oeuvre, riche de centaines de poemes aux styles classique et neo-classique, se distingue notamment par l'invention de nouveaux metres. Il fut egalement l'auteur d'essais portant sur la geographie, la theologie politique ou encore l'ethnohistoire, avant que son nom ne finisse par tomber dans l'oubli. Parallelement a son activite litteraire, Mathias E. Mnyampala mena une brillante carriere de juriste. Serviteur de l'administration coloniale, puis commissaire de la region de Mpanda dans l'Ouest tanzanien en 1963, il exerca par la suite la fonction de magistrat au sein des juridictions de Dar es Salaam, capitale economique et alors administrative de la Republique-Unie de Tanzanie. Cette reedition de 2014 reprend exclusivement le texte du manuscrit autobiographique, sans les illustrations presentes dans la premiere edition parue en 2013. Ce choix editorial repond a la volonte de reduire significativement le prix de vente afin de rendre l'oeuvre durablement accessible au plus grand nombre. Elle est accompagnee d'un avant-propos en francais de Mathieu Roy, qui explique la genese de la decouverte du manuscrit et la genese de sa premiere edition en 2013, et d'une preface en kiswahili de Charles M.
