Apprezzata edizione riveduta ed ampliata, scritta dal celebre matematico francese Mathieu de la Porte, della più famosa opera francese sulla contabilità e l' amministrazione aziendale del XVIII secolo sia nel commercio che nella finanza. De la Porte immagina un' attività commerciale internazionale e spiega le valute, i pesi e le misure degli altri paesi europei. Include anche un pratico dizionario di termini commerciali francesi. Il libro è diviso in tre parti: 1-Livres de Compte à Parties Simples. 2-Parties Doubles. 3-Ecritures: Lettres en stile Marchand; Lettres de Change; Monnoies et Changes Etrangers; Billets de Change et autres; Poids et Mesures; Mots et termes en usage dans le Commerce; manière d' écrire les Articles.; Caractère d' Ecriture le plus convenable. La Porte elaborò l' opera quando venne invitato a scrivere una guida per i contabili in seguito alla promulgazione dell' "Ordonnance de Commerce" ad opera del Ministro delle Finanze francese, Jean-Baptiste Colbert, che fungeva da regolamento per il commercio di commercianti e mercanti. La Science des Négocians si occupa della contabilità sia a singola che a doppia entrata, con esempi pratici, nonché del trattamento di "Billets de Change", pesi e misure e condizioni commerciali. La prima parte del libro tratta della contabilità a partita singola, che è descritta come adatta solo per le piccole imprese. Quindi l' A. passa alla contabilità in partita doppia, dove introduce alcuni chiarimenti e modifiche al sistema esistente. Distingue tra l' intero memoriale e il memoriale diviso in più parti, si occupa di voci di giornale singole e composte e infine introduce quindici libri ausiliari di aiuto, che sono per lo più illustrati. In particolare, la trattazione da parte di De La Porte della contabilità a doppia entrata influenzò tutti i trattati seguenti sull' argomento e venne tradotto in olandese e portoghese. Anche la forma oblunga del testo voluta da De la Porte fu ripreso da diversi altri autori che scrissero dell' argomento negli anni seguenti. Reymondin cita La Porte come uno dei principali interpreti dell' argomento sostenendo che fu lui "préconise les livres auxiliaries, les comptes Divers débitturs et Divers créditeurs. L' opera è un classico del settore, il libro presenta numerosi esempi di conti reali che ci trasportano nel mondo delle botteghe della Francia del XVIII secolo.
