Amsterdam, chez Mattys Pool sur le Leidse gracht proche de Heere gracht, 1727, in-4°, 27,5 cm, engraved title page in French + engraved title page in Dutch and English + engraved dedication leaf (to Ieronimo Tonnemans) + engraved portrait of the sculptor + 2 engraved text leaves + engraved portrait of the draughtsman (Barent Graat peintre) + 2 engraved text leaves + 89 engraved plates depicting the sculptures (numbered ix - ciii , there being 5 plates with a double number, depicting two subjects) + engraved index leaf. Complete. All plates printed on recto side of leaf only. Bound in contemporary half roan, marbled boards, roan with severe traces of use, inner upper joint cracked but still holding. Still a fine/good copy with the engravings printed on strong paper with wide margins. First edition of a collection of engravings illustrating the sculptures of the Flemish sculptor Francis Bossuit (Born in Brussels 1635 died Amsterdam 1692). He was famous for his ivory sculptures. During his youth and after he lived and worked in Italy. He was brought to Holland by Bonaventura van Overbeek . Some of the sculptures represented here are identified and can be traced in famous collections. E.g. Plate X (David sees Bathseba , Wallace collection). Plate XXIII (Adonis death , Rijksmuseum).
