Original morocco backed Mauchline ware wooden boards, made from wood grown on Flodden Field, with oval engraved vignette of Etal Castle transfer printed on the upper cover, with four engraved vignettes in each corner, with an engraving of Twisel Bridge on the lower cover with scroll decorations in the corner, neatly rebacked preserving the original spine. Gernsheim, 323. With the rarely recorded retailer's name of A. & R. Robb of Colstream printed on both covers. Maggs, Bookbinding in the British Isles p. 202 Mauchline Ware binding of wooden boards with a red, green blue and black tartan design transferred from paper onto sycamore boards and heavily varnished, with "M'Duff" stamped in gold at the upper margin of the upper cover, maroon morocco spine in six compartments tooled in gold, a.e.g.; former owner's signtures on upper blank, minor rubbing to binding but nonetheless very good.
