The motto of this 'Academy´ were 20th century music and theory, especially after the 1950s. Five guest lecturers discussed theoretical, historical and philosophical aspects of this theme in six articles:In Music-Analytical Trends of the Twentieth Century, Jonathan Dunsby discusses key features in the development of music analysis from pre-structuralist to postmodern times. Joseph N. Straus describes in Atonal Composing-Out different ways in which the intervallic and motivic ideas of the musical surface in atonal music are projected over larger spans. In the article Systemlessness in Music, Yves Knockaert investigates the controllability of non-intention in Cage´s work, the compositional approach of Morton Feldman´s 'floating thoughts´, and the 'raw state´ of Wolfgang Rihm´s music of the 1980s. Max Paddison exposes, in Nature and the Sublime: The Politics of Order and Disorder in Twentieth-Century Music, a history of the concept of nature in relation to music with some references to literature and the visual arts. Finally, Konrad Boehmer analyses several aspects of the political economy of music in Music and Politics. Towards a Terza Prattica mainly focuses on the perspectives of the paradigmatic change which electric music had caused.

Inviting more than 30 artists to present works in the public space, the manifestation takes as a point of departure the urban transformation of two traditional Zurich neighborhoods: Altstetten and Albisrieden were small villages at the beginning of the 20th century and developed popular cooperative housing. Now these villages are undergoing rapid transformation as the city of Zurich is growing fast. Altstetten and Albisrieden have long been very popular as studio addresses for artists such as Fischli/Weiss, Carl Bucher, and Pipilotti Rist, but they are gradually loosing their original charm.

Z : 19,5 x 24 cm, 192 pages with 150 black-white and 32 colour, halfcloth illustrations - The retrospective Terry Fox: Elemental Gestures, which opened at the Berlin Academy of the Arts in 2015 before being shown in Mons, Wuppertal, and the Kunstmuseum Bern in 2017, clearly demonstrated Fox s key role in the development of art since the 1970s. It not only revealed him as a pioneer of performance, video art, and sound installation but also presented his experimental exploration of language and space. A symposium held in conjunction with the Bern exhibition adopted a variety of approaches to reflect on the performances and installations of this European American based in Switzerland. This is the starting point for the publication in which scholars, artists, and close associates seek to define more precisely the often silent situations at work between object and word, sound and sculpture, labyrinth and experience, body and action.
