Condition: Fine. Max Platz (illustrator). Scarce framed albumen silver portrait of MacDonald in Roman attire. Signed "War! Sincerely, W.H. MacDonald" to base of image. MacDonald studied opera under leading masters in Europe with his debut in Italy, later coming to the United States to perform for the Emma Abbott Grand English Opera Company and subsequently joined the Boston Ideal Opera Company in 1880 ( Who's Who in America, 1899) . Dark wood frame; cabinet card mounted within window and adhered to mat board. Frame: 11 3/4 x 14 inches; Window: 9 3/4 x 12 inches; Card: 4 1/4 x 6 1/2 inches.
