Stationen als Konzertmeister führten ihn ab den 1920er Jahren an die Staatsopern von Stuttgart, Dresden und Berlin. 1926 in Weimar zum jüngsten Musikprofessor Deutsch…lands ernannt, folgte er Rufen nach Berlin und nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg, den er als Gottbegnadeter" überstand, nach Detmold.
