First edition, thus. 8vo; 186pp; pictorial mustard-colored cloth over board, gilt stamped lettering on front, color stamped illustration of two children with ice skates; lettering on spine in black; ownership in light pencil on ffep; light offset of fp to title page; 4 color plates including fp; head and tail pieces; black line illustrations throughout text; soiling and shelf-wear to boards, small half circle torn from fore edge of p.65; very good. The classic tale of the brother and sister in the Netherlands, and the race for the Silver Skates by Mary Mapes Dodge. This copy illustrated by May Audubon Post (1860-1829), an artist who studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and Drexel Institute. She travelled to the Netherlands and Paris at the turn of the 20th century where she continued her studies and exhibited at the Salon. She is known for her painted Dutch scenes.
