Folio (16 x 20 inches). One lithographed general map of Geneva and 25 numbered maps of individual Cantons, all with contemporary hand-colour in outline(some light browning and creasing). Contemporary half vellum green patterned paper boards (worn at the extremities with minor loss). Grandson of the celebrated 18th-century cartographer of the same name, Mayer is noted for combining the cultural and topographical aspects of the terrain in his maps, and credited with standardizing cartographical techniques after the upheavals caused by the French annexation of Geneva in the early years of the century. Catalogued by Kate Hunter.
