Please See All Photos. Vintage Copyrighted 1965 For orchestra or band: the ESSAY, if presented in the middle portion of an orchestral or band concert, affords a contrast through its chamber quality and provides an opportunity for solo playing by first desk players. For chamber music concert: the ESSAY was commissioned by the Robert Nagel Wind Ensemble to provide a piece whose scoring included both a woodwind and brass quintet. The work has been programmed successfully as the final number in a chamber music concert. For children's concerts: the ESSAY has particular value as a demonstration piece, for it contains solo passages for all the main woodwind and brass instruments. General note: A short brass trio entitled COUNTRY FAIR (Boosey and Hawkes) serves as a fanfare to the ESSAY in the CRI recording of these works. This juxtaposition is also suggested for concert performance. Kinstler,Raymond E. (illustrator).…
