Thomas Haslam came from Queen's County Itreland in 1818 to settle in Prince Edward Island, This was the beginning of the Springfield community - intermediate between Alberton and Georgetown. Text assisted by a township plan and several b/w photographs. Cond : Paper wrapper is light buff coloured with brown lettering and graphics. The cover illustration is by Lisa Coombes and shows a four-horse stage in front of Haslam's Inn - circa 1835. Volume is tight and bright but is lightly soiled (cover). No names, marks, creases, nor tears. Excellent Maritime reference volume ! ! Quote (p. 75) : " It is interesting to note some of the changes that have taken place over the years. In the 1908 Teacher's Register there are 50 pupils enrolled under one teacher. This would be before the classes in the country schools were graded 1 to 10. Since grade 7 is the highest grade mentioned, no doubt some of these pupils would be studying `the branches' ._._._. ." Size: 8vo.
