Embark on a literary expedition into Samuel Pepys's captivating diary, a treasure trove of 17th-century theatrical insights on the burgeoning Restoration stage. Pepys, a keen observer with a discerning eye for detail, offers a first-hand account of London's vibrant theatre scene from 1660 to 1670. Witness the rise of rhymed heroic tragedies and witty society comedies, alongside the introduction of actresses and movable scenery that transformed the theatrical landscape. Dive into the world of celebrated actors like Thomas Betterton and Nell Gwyn, whose performances ignited the stage, while navigating the rivalries and scandals that plagued the era's playhouses.
