Full tan leather with black spine label, 9 tall and 2.5" thick, marbled edges and endpapers, illustrated throughout with engravings plus a magnificent hand colored folding map measuring approximately 13.75" x 34" and depicting the US as of 1876 plus the original 13 colonies and identified Indian tribes. Some external wear and scuffed areas with some fairly minor chipping to the spine head, some surface wear to front joint but cover very secure, text block firm, pages clean with some expected age-toning, no names or other markings, map very good with about a 3" closed tear where it is connected to the book, affecting only the legend area of the 13 colonies map, no paper loss. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Leather-bound. Quarto. Contemporary sheep (9 3/4 in. x 6 3/4 in. x 2 1/2 in.). Both boards loose, but holding well with firm stitching. Leather peeling (sheep was often the cheapest option available to those who wanted their books professionally bound) and a 1 in. x 2 in. chip at bottom of spine). Contrasting spine labels of gilt on black, double ruled in gilt. Foldout MAP at rear: Mitchell's New Intermediate Geography. Over 200 engravings taken from nature, presenting "a complete panorama of our great country." Originally sold only by subscription. Some darkening/foxing to endpapers only. 1118 pp. total.
