No Binding. Condition: Very Good. Original publisher's leaflet printed in black ink on light beige paper. No date, circa 1906. 3 1/2" x 6 1/4." One leaf of paper printed on front and back. Leaflet is very clean and intact except for light age toning, a tiny closed tear at top, and a small crease at one of the bottom corners. A V…ery Good copy. This is a promotional leaflet advertising a collection of short stories by O. Henry, The Four Million (1906). O. Henry (1862-1910) is the pen name of William Sydney (also, Sidney) Porter, who as an American author. Porter is perhaps best-known for writing short stories about everyday people with twist endings. Porter was well-known for using his observations of people in real life as the basis for some of his characters. The Four Million is a collection of twenty-five of Porter's short stories set in New York which includes his famous "The Gift of the Magi" and "The Cop and the Anthem." The title of this short story collection was a tongue-in-cheek retort to a Ward McAllister's claim in a newspaper editorial that "only Four Hundred people in New York City . were really worth noticing." This edition of The Four Million was published by McClure Phillips & Co.
