Hardbound. Condition: FAIR. Reading copy and wonderful period piece (probably 1909 printing). - The chapter entitled "The Valley of Death" has a full color, full page reproduction of A>D. McCormick's drawing "the Retreat from Afghanistan, 1842". Loose binding with endpaper hinges starting to crack, faintest age tanning of pages with some fingerprints, seriously tanned endpapers, covers are rubbed and age soiled,308 indexed pages with 12 full color, full page prints (all present but most have come loose from binding).Spine is softened with forward lean and slight fraying to ends. Rough cut edges to side and bottom, gilt on top.
