Hard bound. Condition: Good. No Jacket. First Edition. Biography of WJ McKenzie, Canadian missionary to Korea in the late 19th century. Details of his early life, and first missionary assignments (including a chapter on his work in Labrador) are followed by his arrival in Korea in the fall of 1893. For the next two years, McKenzie laboured valiantly to establish a Presbyterian parrish in Sorai, Korea, despite an increasingly desparate political and social conditions during the Tong Hak rebellion. His death of llness in 1895 inspired his converts to complete the first native Korean church on their own, a lasting tribute to a brave and dedicated life. 290 pp, 6 b&w illustrations. Decorative gold stamped green cloth, some wear at top and base of spine, corners slightly frayed, abrasion to surface of bottom left cover and bottom of spine, former owner's signature on FFEP, internal page edges tanned but all still clean and unmarked.
