First issue of Marfa Journal, a lush publication covering art, fashion, culture, philosophy, sex, and anything else that fits the bespoke artist life. Uncommon, out of print. Aprox 280 pages of full color images, interviews, musings etc, in flexi boards. This copy is generally excellent, with solid, tight binding. Bright clean interior - no marks at all. Boards have a little bit of wear around the corners, emphasizing the flex in flexiboards, with corners lightly turned in and some bumping along the foredges and at some parts of the spine (not effecting binding). Small stain at base of spine, not effecting interior. Also lightly rubbed at that part. Some other light scuffing and rubbing besides. Generally well kept copy, now in mylar. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Roberta McDonald (illustrator). First Edition. 175pp. Book clean and unmarked, with tight binding, straight spine and square corners. Dust jacket shows toning to spine and mild wear to extremities but is intact, not price clipped. Envelope tipped in to front free endpaper. Four laid-in letters. The first is from April 27, 1937, from Republican politician Stanley M. Isaacs to McGinley. Isaacs praises McGinley's light verse. The following year, Isaacs became Manhattan Borough President, a position he held until 1941. McGinley's reply from April 29 of 1937 thanks Isaacs and updates him on news of her light verse publications. Letter signed by McKinley. The third letter, from Isaacs to McGinley, is dated December 27, 1951. In it, Isaacs discusses suburbia and McGinley's work. The final letter is from February 11, 1952, from McGinley to Isaacs. Unlike the other three, this is a handwritten note on a name card (Mrs. Charles Hayden - McGinley had married Hayden by that time). She acknowledges the complexities around suburbia and says, "I have fallen in love with our village." A lovely, brief correspondence between McGinley and a significant longtime reader. Signed by Author(s). Book.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book is recommended for parents who are frustrated and confused by how the public school system excludes them from contributing meaningfully to their children's education. The author recounts many of her experiences in the Public Education System from the inside where she taught in a wide variety of places and grades throughout Western Canada, over a period of 46 years. She recounts the many changes that have taken place in that time frame. Roberta (as she prefers to be called) prides herself on the courage to face difficulties head-on and challenge authority when it appears to be self-serving rather than dedicated to its founding principles. This pursuit has led her to run for public office three times and enter several other fields, some in the private sector, which gives her a different perspective than solely as a public servant. The topics covered range from new trends since the end of W.W.-II to whether uniforms should be instituted to what can be done about bullying. Many authorities are quoted and brought into the discussion, from Statistics Canada to Hilda Neat by. Education is a hot button topic these days, second only to Health Care in Canada, it seems. Roberta wonders whether we are due for some real fundamental changes in the way we teach our children. This book encourages us to open a true dialectic on the subject.
