Nora Spicer Unwin (22 Feb 1907 1 Jan 1982) was a British-born wood engraver, book illustrator, and children's author whose career spanned most of the mid-20th century. Illustrated more than 100 books by other authors and wrote/illustrated 9-12 of her own. Contributed to award-winning children's literature: Her illustrations are part of Mountain Born, a Newbery Honor book. She illustrated Amos Fortune, Free Man, which won the Newbery Medal (her artistry contributed to this major award). ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.

Pages and illustrations have light tanning and foxing throughout. Medium cracking to gutters causing binding to be loose, however pages remain attached. Minor dog-eared corners. Pencil marks to rear free endpaper. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Slight crushing to spine ends. Dent to edge of front board. Paper worn away to top edge of rear board. Wear marks overall.

Gift inscription inside cover (not authors) ; gift inscription inside cover (not author) ; cover corner bent; a couple of small marks on pages, but generally quite clean for a young childs book of this age; lovely full page pictures in b/w, green & brown; d/w not price clipped (3/6) ; a few very small closed tears to d/w edges, mainly at spine edges; ; a story about Dennis the Donkey and his friends Sniffer the dealyham (dog) , Mr & Mrs Duck and Linda the Black Calf.; The Tweenie Books; Square 8vo 8" to 9" tall.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. A rather worn copy of a scarce title. Large square 8vo; blue cloth covers, worn and discoloured at edges; black cat in centre with ball of string; spine worn; gift inscription on fep; some foxing; foreward by author's wife, Elizabeth Yates; book essentially comprises of full page black and white photographs of animals. Teachers, mothers & childrens were asked what animals children liked best. The 22 photographs are the combined answers. The aim was to keep the pictures simple and fundemental; to show the animals clearly and naturally and where possible in their own surroundings. Thgere may not be words, but there are certainly stories to tell. Pages coming away at tops and btoom of spine. Certainly this has been a much loved book. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.

Signs of wear can include aesthetic issues such as scratches, dents, worn and creased covers, folded page corners and minor liquid stains.
