"This book was designed by Peter Oldenburg and fifteen thousand copies have been printed of the first edition. In order to reproduce as nearly as possible the look of the original prints, two different printing processes were used. Letterpress, by The Spiral Press, was used for the woodcuts, wood engravings, and line drawings, and offset lithography, by the Meriden Gravure Company, for the etchings and engravings. The plates for the illustrations were made directly from the originals, except for a few books too fragile to be removed from the Museum. The text was set in Linotype Janson, with hand-set Bulmer for display, and printed by The Spiral Press. The paper is Mohawk Superfine. The book was bound in Columbia Lynbrook cloth by J.F. Tapley Company, and the jacket was printeed by the Meriden Gravure Company.". …
