Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Revised Edition; First Printing. Minor cover corner creases and shelf wear, lightly sunned spine, ink name dated Christmas 1977 to front endpaper. ; Undated but assumed c1977. Nice tight copy. Cover design by Carol Belanger. Large format book and priced accordingly. ; B&W Illustrations; 128 pages; 101 block patterns for American style patchwork, where the pieces are joined directly, not over paper templates in the English style. I was told as a child that this came about as each block was small enough to be sewn on the bench of a covered wagon, crossing the continent, whereas hexagon patchwork tends to be joined into a continous growing piece of work! The block vary from 5 to 20 inches wide in size, and are usually matched in colour across the whole quilt. It includes instructions and designs for quilting the finished item, and how much cloth each quilt will need. It includes stories of how the patterns were found and their history when known. This is a properly made book with sewn signatures and will lay flat for reading or photocopying the patterns.
