Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Everett McNear (illustrator). 5th or later Edition. The Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago Ill. 1962 (1948) Fifth Edition, Printed by Hillison and Etten Co. Designed by Everett McNear. Soft cover book has French Toile boards to front and back in rusty reddish brown on cream ground. From copyright page: "Cover Design: is from Les Delices Des Quatre Saisons, French printed cotton of about 1785, by J.-B. Huet". Boards have light edge wear, light fading, light soil, and spine has a few minor chips. Lettering is black on both front cover and spine. No DJ. Inside end papers are of a quality, heavier card stock in beige, near fine, in both front and back with one number in top right of first front end paper only. Most all pages here feature black and white photographs of miniatures used for interior designs. The papers here are high quality satin type, well suited for the well done, artistic photography contained within. From the first page in book: "The Miniature Rooms are built to a uniform scale of one inch to the foot, making them one-twelfth actual size. Illustrated is the lacquered pedestal desk and its equipment, used in the early eighteenth-century English library (number 6), shown in comparative scale with a pair of modern spectacles.". The photo here shows the desk with mini globes, floral vase with roses, candlestick and candle, (two types) along with a book and inkwell. The desk here looks to be "japanned" with Oriental designs. Book has a Foreword, by unknown person, and each page has the design (numbered) with title, type, and time period noted, along with dates. ie. "1. Great Hall, English, Late Tudor Period, 1550 - 1600 (Henry VIII, 1509 - Elizabeth, 1558 - 1603). etc.
