Hardback. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. 1st edition. Mary Martin's Needlepoint by Mary Martin. Published by William Morrow & Co Inc, New York, NY, 1969. 1st Edition 2nd Printing. Paper DJ. Size 4to (up to 12'' tall). Condition: VG in Torn & Taped DJ. Some edge wear, overall content excellent. 148 Pgs. LCCN 7…0-79725. Photographs by Sol Mednick. 37 color plates, 54 black and white, 16 how-to drawings. Mary Martin recalls highlights of her life onstage and off, as she tells about making needlepoint for everyone from her children to Rogers and Hammerstein, designing pieces for her homes in NY and Brazil, and working on it whenever career or private life has taken her - anyplace from Vietnam on a Far Eastern tour to freighter trips which are her favorite kind of vacation travel. In her engagingly personal and practical way, she is frank to say that one good reason for doing needlepoint is that it is easy. At the end of the book is an illustrated how-to section written especially for beginners, but contains as much as anyone needs to know to work on designs that range from simple first efforts to satisfyingly elaborate projects. The secret is that only minor variations on one basic stitch are used, even for the most complicated designs. Description text copyright 2009 BooksForComfort. Item ID 5223. Condition: Good. Second of three total issues of Portfolio, a masterwork in graphic design and publishing, containing pages of varying color and density and multiple printing styles all in one publication, also containing a large variety of contributions, from design to poetry to art to literature, and from different time period…s and geographic origins. Truly unique, editor Alexey Brodovitch, famous for his work on Harpers Bazaar, insisted on no advertising, allowing this production to remain deeply inspired and creative (and not financially viable, ultimately). Now very collectible, with this issue being perhaps most sought after, in part owing the the portfolio of work by Charles and Ray Eames contained within, also with the embossed cover designed by Eames. This copy is in good condition, and would be very good if not for some minor flaws with the covers. Contents within are perfect, crisp and clean and no signs of heavy wear, just the occasional light thumb indent and wear to corner tips on the pages that are larger than others, since the pages vary not just in color and material printed within, but also in paper style and size. The binding is strong, solid, square. One of the worst flaws is a loss to the paper at the head of the spine for about 1/2" (see photos for details) otherwise some light scuffing to spine paper but not effecting the integrity. The covers have some heavy rubbing, scuffing, staining. Front cover has a heavy crease at the bottom corner on the right and a very small closed horizontal tear at the middle of the foredge. Back cover bumped at the upper corner but does not effect interior. All white back cover more heavily rubbed and stained than the front. Still attractive and now in mylar. Offered here at a relatively low price with all of this in mind, please see photos and ask questions .
