El profesor Josef Flammer es director del Instituto Universitario de Ojos de Basilea y ha publicado numerosos trabajos del examen del campo visual computerizado y del papel de la circulación sanguínea ocular en el glaucoma. El libro se estructura en dos partes. Una parte principal que trata específicamente del glaucoma, que consta de 8 capítulos y una parte suplementaria para profundizar en ciertos aspectos del glaucoma que consta de 13 capítulos, terminado con varios apéndices. La parte principal comienza con el primer capítulo que realiza una Introducción al glaucoma. El segundo capítulo repasa el daño glaucomatoso estructural y funcional.
