Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book investigates the intriguing history of bourgeois heraldry in the Alsatian city of Mulhouse, a topic neglected by local historians until now. Before the mid-17th century, Mulhouse's bourgeois adopted simple heraldic devices, often featuring trade-related symbols. However, in 1642, the mayor Jacques Henri Petri initiated a significant change by creating a table of coats of arms for the city's mayors, featuring more elaborate designs influenced by contemporary aristocratic heraldry. The author meticulously analyzes the differences between the original and revised coats of arms, drawing on extensive archival research and period documents. Through this study, the author sheds light on the evolution of bourgeois heraldry in Mulhouse, highlighting its gradual adoption of aristocratic norms and the significance of heraldry as a marker of social status and civic pride. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu.
