Pages and binding are presentable with no major defects. Minor issues present such as mild cracking, inscriptions, inserts, light foxing, tanning and thumb marking. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some mild marking and tanning.

No date but circa 1925. 5 tipped in colour plates as called for - one with light crease across corner. Light stain - just 7mm in diameter to for edge - in no way effecting the pages - could be foxing. Otherwise a very clean, tight copy of this scarce childrens book.

New jolly illustrations in colour, many full page, by Roy Meldrum. The cats, fully clothed, are rather tall and stand on their hind legs. 160 lines of immortal verse. Extremities lightly worn, bookseller's small label on front pastedown, no inscriptions. A very good plus copy, (lacking dustwrapper). Based on the 1885 version for which Ruskin wrote 4 new verses, originally published in 1823. Meldrum is little known but contributed a large number of illustrations to the Joy Street Annuals.
