A substantial early post-war study of the history and development of modern Israel and Zionism. The book discusses antisemitism, Zionism, Palestine, the Arab world, the British Mandate, Jewish immigration, the establishment of the State of Israel and the political situation surrounding its creation. The volume is illustrated and includes a portrait of Theodor Herzl, photographic material and a decorative map endpaper depicting the Middle East and Palestine. This copy also contains two contemporary handwritten inscriptions/dedications in Dutch, dated 1949, adding individual provenance and historical character to the copy. Physical Description Octavo, 378 pp., illustrated. Original blue cloth hardcover. The binding remains structurally sound but shows age-related wear, particularly to the spine ends and board edges. The cloth has some rubbing and surface wear. The text block is complete and firmly bound. The pages show age toning and scattered foxing/staining, particularly to the preliminary and end pages. The book contains handwritten inscriptions in ink on the front blank pages. No dust jacket is present. Overall: Good antiquarian condition, with noticeable age-related wear and foxing.
