This is an amazing, custom-bound collection of patents from the mid-to-late 1800's, "Copies of United States Patents Issued to and Purchased by MELLEN BRAY, Newton Centre, Massachusetts. Together with List of English, French, Belgium and Canadian Patents Granted Him, also Abandoned and Rejected Cases." Beautifully bound in full leather with gilt decorations and lettering on the covers and spine, gilt page edges on all sides, marbled end papers, five raised bands on the spine, and an intricate gilt border along the outer edges of the inside covers. The patents are dated 1856 to 1884. There are 534 hand-numbered pages. Bray was a prominent 19th century inventor from the Boston, MA area. Patents include inventions for boots and shoes, a pea sheller, rivets, sheet metal, cans / paint cans, buttons, musical instrument reeds, fishing flies, mail bags, padlocks, hides, wrenches, sails and rigging, anvils.and many more. Condition: Some scratches and scuffs to the leather covers, and to the bands on the spine; wear to the corners. Tight binding with no cracks. Bright gilt page edges on all sides. A small cluster of six pages at the front (the title page, 4 contents pages, and page 1) have detached. No other issues found within the book - the pages are lightly age-toned but clean with no notable flaws. Overall the book is in Good condition.
