There is an approximate horizontal 3" scratch on the back cover of the book about 2 1/2" from the bottom outer edge otherwise book would grade fine. 112 oversized pages on high quality paper with many photographs mostly in color but a few black & white. The dust jacket is torn at the bottom outer edge of the back cover and a piece is missing that is approximately 4" vertical and 5 3/4" horizontal. Much smaller pieces are missing at the top of the back and front cover of the dj. The dust jacket is now protected in an archival quality Brodart cover. To accompany Mellott's pictures in West Virginia University the publisher presents numerous excerpts from the written and spoken words of West Virginia University administrators, alumni and friends and an introduction by well-known West Virginia professor Ruel Foster.

It is the culmination of a year's worth of journeys to Evanston, where the photographer explored the campus of Northwestern with his camera, to get the feeling of the University. Jack Mellott has been a freelance photographer since 1985 and his assignments have ranged from corporate photography to locations and advertising work. He is a member of the American Society of Magazine Photographers. Northwestern University is a private research university in Evanston, Illinois. Founded in 1851, Northwestern is the oldest chartered university in Illinois and is ranked among the most prestigious academic institutions in the world. Chartered by the Illinois General Assembly in 1851, Northwestern was established to serve the former Northwest Territory. The university was initially affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church, but soon grew to be nonsectarian. In 1896, Northwestern became a founding member of the Big Ten Conference, and later joined the Association of American Universities as an early member in 1917. The university grew to be the third largest university in the United States by the turn of the 20th century.
