Sa maison a été détruite par un incendie, pendant la Commune. Ce volume regroupe les principaux ouvrages qui restent dans les mémoires des lecteurs. Signed on the limitation page, and with an inscription on the last free endpaper from the translator Edmund Garrett and his wife to fellow artist Charles Copeland and his wife. Also with 17 in-text etchings by Garrett. Cream vellum covers, and printed on japon vellum, with cover clasps sprung but present. Top edge gilt, text block natural cut. Also includes a memoir of Merimee by Louise Imogen Guiney, and an appendix "Concerning Gypsies." The covers have a few small stains, the top edge gilt is slightly dulled, and the covers have some bowing, as is typical for aged vellum. Text is bright and clean, and free from any foxing, but with slight edge toning. Also, some tissue guards for the etchings are missing. Merimee's story forming the basis for Bizet's famous eponymous opera. Inscribed by Author(s).
