Very fine signed binding by Bradstreet's of full red crushed morocco with five raised bands, gilt title and gilt floral emblems in each spine compartment, the floral emblems repeated on each board corner, framed within a double gilt rule. Wide turn-ins with smaller floral devices to corners, again within a double gilt rule. Gilt top edge, others untrimmed. In excellent condition. Trace of rubbing to lower joints, else fine.     Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Limited Edition. 8vo. size, 119 pp. 1st privately printed limited edition, this copy #13 of 50. Signed on the limitation page, and with an inscription on the last free endpaper from the translator Edmund Garrett and his wife to fellow artist Charles Copeland and his wife. Also with 17 in-text etchings by Garrett. Cream vellum covers, and printed on japon vellum, with cover clasps sprung but present. Top edge gilt, text block natural cut. Also includes a memoir of Merimee by Louise Imogen Guiney, and an appendix "Concerning Gypsies." The covers have a few small stains, the top edge gilt is slightly dulled, and the covers have some bowing, as is typical for aged vellum. Text is bright and clean, and free from any foxing, but with slight edge toning. Also, some tissue guards for the etchings are missing. Merimee's story forming the basis for Bizet's famous eponymous opera. Inscribed by Author(s).
