Green cloth with some colour fade to front edge, bumped to corners, the spine also a little faded with light damage to top. Binding…strong. Light tanning to endpapers. Rectangle cut from the top of ffep (presumably removing a signature). Colour frontispiece. 124pp. of animal verse with b/w illustrations. Contents clean and bright. Now very scarce. Matthew Merrythought was the pseudonym of the renowned chess player Arthur James Maas (1857-1933). Edith Blackwell Holden (26 September 1871 - 15 March 1920) was an English artist, writer and art teacher. She was influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement and specialised in painting animals and plants. While collecting flowers from a riverbank at Kew Gardens, Holden drowned in the Thames in 1920.
