Out of print and scarce in good condition for the fanzine collector. Conditions are very good to fine. Preserved in plastic archival acid-free silp cover. Meskys the original editor may have done APA's or FAPA's after this with Niekas material under a different name. This issue was refered to as the Stran…ge Sports Stories issue because of the articles comparing SF fans to Sports fans; the types of heros both disciplnes offers and the tenacity each have for their interest. Out of print and scarce and in a condition collectors will require for completing a collection. Conditions are very good to fine. Preserved in plastic archival acid-free silp cover. Niekas established itself as a large and variegated magazine containing a mixture of articles, but with particular emphasis on Fantasy and J R R Tolkien. Niekas ceased publication with no 20 in 1968, only to be revived with no 21 in 1977. Contributors to Niekas included Pie…rs Anthony, Isaac Asimov, Anthony Boucher, Algis Budrys, Avram Davidson, Philip K Dick, Raymond Z Gallun, Jack Gaughan, Harry Harrison, Sam Moskowitz, Andre Norton, Alexei Panshin, Jerry Pournelle, Donald A Wollheim and Roger Zelazny. Niekas won the Hugo for Best Fanzine in 1967 and was nomnated again in 1989. (Peter Nicholls, Rob Hansen, David Langford/Encyclopedia of SF, 3rd Edition). These two (2) issues from 1981 & 1985 respectfully contain articles by Diana Paxson, Marsha Jones, Fred Lerner, Philip K Dick, Raymond Z. Gallum, Mike Bastraw, Piers Anthony, Sam Mskowitz, and Jon Douglas Singer among many others Both these copies are uncirculated, but are starting to show light browning from shelf sitting for almost 40 years. The Tolkien Journal is a 1968 reprint of the original issue's 1 & 2 edited by Dick Plotz that first appeared in the Spring and Winter of 1965. This issue of Neikas and these reprints of the Tolkien Journal are hard to come by and not offered together anywhere else that this editor is aware of. This Niekas is a new uncirculated copy and the Tolkien Jounral is also uncirculated, but is lightly browning from age. They are both being protected in plastic acid free storage bags.
