Various clues indicate this is likely to have been the auctioneers own copy. For the first 157 lots the bidding increments have been noted (see pics) presumably ending with the hammer prices. There are other typed and hand-written notes about some properties, including a list of all 177 properties detailing, I believe, the current Lessees. + a Proof and a Final copy of the Addenda. Background - In 1948 the Portman Estate, then valued at £10 million, was subject to death duties of £7.6 million on the death of the 7th Viscount Portman, resulting in the sale of all the family's West Country estates as well as the Northern part of the London Estate in 1951, and then this sale of the Marylebone area in 1952. Title page reads "Part of THE PORTMAN ESTATE consisting of 179 LOTS comprising SHOPS, OFFICES, BANK AND LICENSED PREMISES, WORK-SHOPS, BUSINESS PREMISES, FLATS, RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES AND BUILDING SITES Let at Ground or Rack Rents at present producing a Total Gross Income of about Per £45,000 Ann. Many occupying prominent positions in such main thoroughfares and shopping streets as BAKER STREET, YORK STREET, UPPER MONTAGU STREET, MARYLEBONE ROAD, CRAWFORD STREET, CHILTERN STREET, PADDINGTON STREET, DORSET STREET, GLOUCESTER PLACE, WYNDHAM PLACE and intermediate streets.
