Theatrical programme. 28.5 x 22cm. Original illustrated stapled card wrappers taking the form of a folded poster. Illustrated throughout with black and white photographs. pp. [24]. A near-fine copy with just a minor crease to the top corner of the upper wrapper and a little rubbing to extremities; the contents remain clean and c…risp throughout. WITH: A contemporary handbill (23 x 19cm) printed in black on pale yellow paper addressed "To the viewers of the Russian Concert" by the "Committee for the Defence of Human Rights in Ukraine". The handbill is in near-fine condition with a light horizontal fold to the centre. An uncommon example of the programme for this theatrical show highlighting the multifaceted artistic talents of the USSR, which toured Australia and New Zealand in the Spring of 1972, including a rare handbill issued by the "Committee for the Defence of Human Rights in Ukraine", presumably handed out to attendees, designed to raise awareness of the Russian persecution of Ukrainians and "other non-Russian minorities of the U.S.S.R.", as well as the duplicity of the present show itself: "The Imperialist Russian regime which denies Ukrainian cultural activities in Ukraine, stages high class performances abroad to gain credit for itself as the protector of national cultures of the U.S.S.R.". WorldCat records only one example of the programme (Univ. of Calgary), with no mention of the associated handbill.
