A monograph on the painting "Christ Beofre Pilate" by the Hungarian painter Mihaly Munkacsy (1844 1900). The book, produced by his art dealer Charles Sedelmeyer, also documents the painting's (positive) international reception by British, American, French and German critics and journalists. Includes 2 full page original etchings after a painting by Munkacsky: "Christ before Pilate" etched by Ch. Waltner and "Head of the Savior" etched by A. Mathey. The large verison of the etching is advertised for sale at the end. Good+ (ex-library with expected marks; cover and binding have separated; wear and soiling to boards, esepcially at corners where paper is worn through; some foxing and soiling to endpapers; plate one has some light discoloration, and plate two has a bent upper corner--both of these affect the page margins.).

ORIGINAL-ÖLGEMÄLDE (Öl auf Lwd., auf Holzplatte aufgezogen, 49 x 40 cm, gerahmt, leicht krakeliert), unten links eigenhändig signiert MUNKACSY (etwas undeutlich) MOTIV : Abendliche Landschaft mit fröhlichem Wanderer auf dem Weg zu einem Gehöft. (Das Bild wurde vor 22 Jahren, 2003 (!) von SOTHEBY S bereits auf 10.000 bis 15000,- GBP geschätzt und zur Versteigerung in London vorgeschlagen, Unterlagen dabei).
